1. Homemade Potpourri Jars
Gather:
- Dried orange slices (see below for instructions)
- Pine sprigs
- Fresh cranberries
- Cinnamon sticks
- Whole nutmeg or cloves
- Star anise
- 6 mason jars
- 6 squares of cloth
- Baker's twine
Instructions:
1. Divide your ingredients equally between your 6 mason jars.
2. Place half the lid on top.
3. Place the cloth square on top, then screw the rest of the lid on.
4. Finish with a baker's twine bow!
Makes for the cutest handmade gift for friends & family! Just combine with water over the stove for a wonderful holiday smell that will last all day.
2. Dried Orange Garland
Gather:
- Dried orange slices (see below for instructions)
- Fresh cranberries
- Sewing needle (large)
- Baker's twine
Instructions:
1. Dry your oranges ahead of time. Place fresh orange slices on a baking sheet with parchment paper. Bake at 175°F for 4-6 hours, or until the oranges are dry and no longer sticky. Flip your orange slices each hour for even drying.
2. Allow orange slices to cool completely before stringing!
3. Use the sewing needle to string cranberries & orange slices along your garland (don't worry about the cranberries, they will dry out over time!)
This is the cutest seasonal decoration your kids can help make that's dirt cheap and classy at the same time. One of our favorites every year!
3. Sugar Cookie Ornaments
Gather:
- 1/2 Cup salt
- 1 Cup flour
- 1/2 Cup water
- Paint & paintbrushes
- Paper plates & paper towels for easy cleanup!
Instructions:
1. Combine your salt and flour. Add water gradually until you form a dough.
2. Roll out your dough and cut into all the shapes you want! Don't forget to poke holes in the top for a string to hang your ornaments.
3. Bake at 250°F for 2 hours. Allow cookies to cool completely before you paint!
4. Paint, add glitter, get creative!
5. Once your ornaments are dry, string them with baker's twine & hang on your tree.
It's so fun doing this each year and seeing your kiddo's grow with each ornament they create. This is an easy, adorable classic you definitely want to try this holiday season!
